From Cologne, Germany Pius Heinz is 22 years and the first German to reach the final table. All his interviews depict him as cool, cam and confident. Well, for now…
Pius spent the summer moving to Vienna rather than paying in many tournaments. The few he did enter didn’t go so well. Well officially…side games proved lucrative. This year’s Main Event was Pius’ first so like his Ukrainian opponent luck really seemed to be on his side. That’s not saying he didn’t play well.
Heinz is better known for his online pay where he works under the handle MastaP89. Here’s some recent results:

22 year old Brit Sam Holden is a favorite to win this year’s WSOP. He is making the transition from online to offline play and apparently doing it quite well.
Holden went from a successful online player to the sweetheart poker player of the UK. He was a big player on PokerStars and Full Tilt like so many other pros. His online name is “SamDMND.” Holden has only played poker in a professional capacity for one year. Talk about a great way to start out. Here are some recent stats:

21 year old Anton Makiievskyi hails from the Ukraine and is considered the long shot in this year’s final table. He has the second to last smallest chip count out of the nine. Four Ukrainian poker players won gold bracelets during this year’s main event but Anton is the only one ever to reach the final table.
This year’s main event was Anton’s first visit to the United States. He came to live out his poker dream by paying in the world series of poker. I’m pretty sure he didn’t think he’d hit the final table first time out. In interviews with Anton he has spoken about which of his fellow players he thinks will win suggesting not too much confidence in his own abilities. Did he reach the final table by chance? His poker profile is pretty slim compared to his opponents:

Better known to poker fans by his online handle USCphildo 27 year old Phil Collins is not new to the world of professional poker and is quite a recognized opponents among his fellow players. And yes, his mom did name him after the famous singer from Genesis.
A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Phil currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has over $3 million in earnings most of which comes from online play. He comes from South Carolina and is ranked 1320 in the world of poker. As he used to pay most of his games on the former Big Three poker sites you have to wonder if he started live tournaments for something to do.
Here are some of Phil’s recent online stats:

Another 26 year old Eoghan O Dea hails from the emerald isle but resides in Australia. His poker claim to fame is that he came first in his first ever professional tournament. Oh yeah and his dad won a bracelet already. Talk about motivated.

The weekend has arrived and poker fans the world over are in a state of anticipatory excitement. On Saturday the final table of the 2011 WSOP Main Event will take place. I thought this was a good time to remind ourselves about all the contenders, their backgrounds and poker profiles. So here goes.
This year’s November Nine finalists are as follows:
Seat One: Matt Giannetti—24, 750,000 chips
Matt is from New York and currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is 26 years old and studied computer engineering at the University of Texas. His professional poker career began back in 2006 and although he’s had no big wins to his name, he has been moderately successful since. To date he has just over $1,5 million in poker earnings and 24 cash wins. Giannetti has enjoyed six final table moments in his five years of professional poker.
In a recent interview with the WSOP folk, [...]
Well its time to look at the stats again. Its never a better time to look over the world’s top poker players before a big game. And we all know the WSOP final table is finally only days away. Its great to see my favorite player still holding on to the top spot. Seidel’s year has been one for the record books. But there has been a little movement among the scores.
As reported by GPI:
#1 Erik Seidel 2586.96
#2 Eugene Katchalov 2518.15
#3 Jason Mercier 2437.94
#4 Bertrand Grospellier 2425.51
#5 Sorel Mizzi 2344.31
#6 Shawn Buchanan 2331.45
#7 Fabrice Soulier 2231.63
#8 Thomas Marchese 2058.11
#9 Juha Helppi 2031.39
#10 Matt Waxman 2010.63
Jason Mercier moved into third place this week after sitting at number four for quite a number of weeks. This is due to his final table appearance at the Mixed NLHE. Mercier is having quite a year himself.
Matt Waxman reached the top ten this week for the first time. He won this year’s [...]
Out of the three poker sites to suffer on Black Friday PokerStars has managed to bounce back quite well. This was partly due to their cooperation with the US Department back in April when they volunteered to stop offering play to American players. They lost a lot of advertising and missed a few media drenched tournaments but seemed to have fared quite well. Only now the government is noticing that American players are still active on the PokerStars site.
Those professional or dedicated players with long records on PokerStars actually relocated out of the U.S. to continue playing on the site. And some players said they did. Seems a number of poker fans are playing from their home computers in the good Ole’ U S of A.
So how is this possible? Well whoever said poker players were smart. The avid fans have been using re-routers to disguise the ISP signature and actual location. Those players discovered [...]
With the negative tone of poker news lately (can’t say I’m innocent of that) its great to hear about someone laying down a good old fashioned poker challenge to try and stir up some excitement in the world of poker. World famous poker player and recent opponent of Tom Dwan, Daniel Cates aka jungleman has put out a challenge for this year’s Prague poker festival.
Jungleman is offering to play anyone who thinks they can beat him with some pretty high stakes. The minimum buy in will be 100, 000 Euros. This will be a live event streamed online with just a 15 minute delay. Its sounds like quite a fun challenge that some big names could certainly get behind. And what about a mystery new poker genius on the European stage?
Most folks are thinking that Tom Dwan will accept the challenge as a rematch of their previous game. Jungleman on the other hand seems happy [...]
