Better known to poker fans by his online handle USCphildo 27 year old Phil Collins is not new to the world of professional poker and is quite a recognized opponents among his fellow players. And yes, his mom did name him after the famous singer from Genesis.
A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Phil currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has over $3 million in earnings most of which comes from online play. He comes from South Carolina and is ranked 1320 in the world of poker. As he used to pay most of his games on the former Big Three poker sites you have to wonder if he started live tournaments for something to do.
Here are some of Phil’s recent online stats:

The weekend has arrived and poker fans the world over are in a state of anticipatory excitement. On Saturday the final table of the 2011 WSOP Main Event will take place. I thought this was a good time to remind ourselves about all the contenders, their backgrounds and poker profiles. So here goes.
This year’s November Nine finalists are as follows:
Seat One: Matt Giannetti—24, 750,000 chips
Matt is from New York and currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is 26 years old and studied computer engineering at the University of Texas. His professional poker career began back in 2006 and although he’s had no big wins to his name, he has been moderately successful since. To date he has just over $1,5 million in poker earnings and 24 cash wins. Giannetti has enjoyed six final table moments in his five years of professional poker.
In a recent interview with the WSOP folk, [...]
Out of the three poker sites to suffer on Black Friday PokerStars has managed to bounce back quite well. This was partly due to their cooperation with the US Department back in April when they volunteered to stop offering play to American players. They lost a lot of advertising and missed a few media drenched tournaments but seemed to have fared quite well. Only now the government is noticing that American players are still active on the PokerStars site.
Those professional or dedicated players with long records on PokerStars actually relocated out of the U.S. to continue playing on the site. And some players said they did. Seems a number of poker fans are playing from their home computers in the good Ole’ U S of A.
So how is this possible? Well whoever said poker players were smart. The avid fans have been using re-routers to disguise the ISP signature and actual location. Those players discovered [...]
With the negative tone of poker news lately (can’t say I’m innocent of that) its great to hear about someone laying down a good old fashioned poker challenge to try and stir up some excitement in the world of poker. World famous poker player and recent opponent of Tom Dwan, Daniel Cates aka jungleman has put out a challenge for this year’s Prague poker festival.
Jungleman is offering to play anyone who thinks they can beat him with some pretty high stakes. The minimum buy in will be 100, 000 Euros. This will be a live event streamed online with just a 15 minute delay. Its sounds like quite a fun challenge that some big names could certainly get behind. And what about a mystery new poker genius on the European stage?
Most folks are thinking that Tom Dwan will accept the challenge as a rematch of their previous game. Jungleman on the other hand seems happy [...]
Who is on top in the world of poker used to be measured by fans, by popularity and of course media appearances. The GPI has really straightened this out sharing the best and the brightest every week across the poker world. Since my personal favorite Phil Ivey felt out of the top 300 there has been a little shuffling around the poker point chart. But Erik Seidel’s unbelievable lucky streak continues to keep him in the top spot.
Here’s the top ten for this week as reported on GPI website:
#1 Erik Seidel 2586.96
#2 Jason Mercier 2545.04
#3 Bertrand Grospellier 2503.67
#4 Eugene Katchalov 2473.83
#5 Sorel Mizzi 2341.12
#6 Fabrice Soulier 2257.90
#7 Thomas Marchese 2058.11
#8 Scott Seiver 2003.33
#9 Shawn Buchanan 1986.96
#10 Juha Helppi 1970.14
Juha Helppi is a new poker name for me and maybe for you too. Helppi comes from Helsinki, Finland and made his professional poker debut at WPT Aruba. He has over three million in poker earnings and [...]
Andrew Hinrichsen became the sixth ever Australian to take home a WSOP gold bracelet this week when he won the second event of the WSOP Europe. It was a No Limit Hold em event that had a record breaking number of entrants and supplying the final table folks with a nice chunk of change. Here are the results as reported by pokernews.com.
2011 World Series of Poker Europe Event #2 – Final Table Results:
1. Andrew Hinrichsen – €148,030
2. Gianluca Speranza – €91,262
3. Tarcisio Bruno – €67,281
4. Bernard Guigon – €50,146
5. Roberto Romanello – €37,874
6. Eric Baudry – €28,977
7. John Eames – €22,449
8. Nabil Nedjai – €17,608
9. Gregory Lejolivet – €13,982
It was Ace King over King Nine for the win. Heads up play between Gianluca Speranza and Hinrichsen was short lived with the Ozzie gaining the chip lead with a few good hands. Not to say that Speranza didn’t play well and didn’t have good cards. Just [...]
For the longest time it looked like a female professional poker player was going to win for the first time in an open WPT event but a hard slog saw Matt Gianetti of November Nine fame take home the title.
There were a total of 240 original entrants in this newer WPT tour stop including a variety of professionals from around the globe. It didn’t take too long before the final table emerged. The only female player at the table Cecilia Pescaglini made light work of several of the table’s players relying on a mixture of luck and skill to move herself into the third place spot. For a while there it really looked like Pescaglini was taking home the title and making history for professional women poker players.
It took over 100 hands and six hours to get down to head to head play. Simon Trumper went out in fourth place and Filippo Bianchini took third. [...]
Despite the fact that Epic Poker was supposed to bridge the gap between the fall of the big three and the creation of US poker legislation (we presume) the fledging group continues to deal with player issues. Having completed just two tournaments since they came into existence the folks at Full Tilt have a black mark against them from both the first and second tournaments. After the David Chino affair you’d think Epic Poker’s luck would change and good press would soon follow. It did but not for very long.
David Chino won the first ever championship finale of the Epic Poker League enjoying a sizeable check as well as a ring. As soon as his fellow players heard that the man of many debts was flush the chat rooms started buzzing. Because of a very public habit of borrowing money and not giving it back, EPL felt they had no choice but to place Chino [...]
