Vanessa Selbst Claims Another Victory: Female Poker Stars on the Rise

For those of you who haven’t heard about this up and coming poker star, Vanessa Selbst just won the Mohegan Sun NAPT main event knocking out all her competitors both female and male. The game came down to two players, Selbst and Mike Beasley of Florida. Michael Woods came in third after going all in against Selbst. He left the table with $240,000.
Nothing to sneeze at right?
But it was the 25 year old New Yorker who went home with PokerStars $750,000 jackpot after just a few rounds against the man who has been on the poker circuit for a number of years but never gained a professional win. A pair of eights sealed her victory against Beasley’s all in. His Q-10 combo just didn‘t hold up. Selbst adds another victory to her five first place wins.
Selbst is an interesting poker player. This Yale graduate has ambitions of returning to law school to gain enough accreditation to start a career in human rights law. Despite these lofty ambitions, Selbst’s skill at the poker table has her counting chips rather than college credits for the time being.
Beasley left the table with $428,000 which is hardly a kick in the teeth. Selbst looks set to be a female favorite on the summer poker tour and may add a second bracelet to her professional profile.
The event at Mohegan Sun signaled the end of the North American Poker Tour (NAPT) Season 1. Keep checking the NAPT’s website for upcoming events. Or check in here for the latest new from the tables.
