World Series of Poker Main Event
The World Series of Poker Main Event took place on Monday November 9 and Tuesday November 10. The tournament started Monday night and went into the wee hours of the morning on Tuesday. The Main Event saw Joe Cada become the youngest person ever to win in this tournament. Cada brought home a cool $8.55 million. Cada is only 21 years old and turns 22 next week. He forewent college to turn professional in the world of poker. Cada is from Shelby Township, Michigan.
“I ran really well and I never really thought this was possible,” Cada said. “It was one of those dreams and I’m thankful it came true.”
Cada defeated 46-year-old Darvin Moon, a logger who lives in Western Maryland, in the World Series of Poker’s Main Event. The tournament has never had a winner this young for the Main Event in its 40 year history. The Main Event took 88 hands over three hours of play with only one brief 20 minute break during the entire contest.
Moon was not a complete loser in this tournament as the second place winner took home a cool $5.18 million. The World Series of Poker began back in the month of July with over 6,494 players.
Cada learned a good amount of his poker while playing in dozens of online games at once and a handful of heads-up cash games at once. Moon on the other hand has never played online poker. In fact, Moon says he does not even own a computer or have an email address. For someone without a computer during the online poker boom, coming in second place at the World Series of Poker Main Event does not seem too shabby at all.
