Doyle Brunson
Doyle Brunson has been playing poker for over 50 years at the professional level. He is nicknamed the Texas Dolly and he resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. Brunson began his poker playing career playing in illegal games on Exchange Street in Fort Worth, Texas. Brunson has been incredibly successful during his 50-plus year career playing the card game of poker and became the first person to ever win back to back World Series of Poker main event championships. Brunson has also been inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame and he has also written quite a few books on poker.
Brunson is the first poker player in the history of the game to win $1 million in poker tournaments. He has also won 10 World Series of Poker bracelets during his illustrious career, one shy of the record 11 set by Phil Hellmuth during his career. Brunson’s 10 bracelets is tied for second with Johnny Chan on the all-time list. Brunson was also the first poker player to win both the World Series of Poker main event and a World Poker Tour title during his career. There have only been five players to accomplish this feat so far.
The last time Brunson won a bracelet during the World Series of Poker was in the year 2005 when he picked up over $365,000 in the $5,000 no limit shorthanded Texas Hold’em, which is six players per table. Prior to 2005 Brunson won a bracelet in 2003 and again prior to that in 1998. His first bracelet came in 1976, when he won his first World Series of Poker main event title. He won the title again in 1977.
