Glossary of Poker Terms: A Part Two

Not wanting to overwhelm my humble readers with a book of poker terms in one go, I’ve broken the poker glossary up into several blogs so a few terms are learned in one sitting. Here’s some more poker terms that begin with the letter A.
“A” Continued
Action: a generic term for the playing of poker or any other card game. Getting in on the action means to join a game or place a bet in a game already taking place. Can also refer to a player’s turn.
Advantage Tool: any tool, trick or technique that helps a player win a poker hand i.e. cheat. This can mean marked cards or a dodgy card counting and shuffling machine.
Advertising: to knowingly allow other players to see your hand. Can also refer to a player’s attempt to confuse opponents regarding their style of play. Bluffing to present a playing style rather than to win a particular hand is called advertising.
Air: can mean that the player got nothing on the turn card or river that helped their hand. Refers to a player’s attempt to get another player to bet or stay in the game.
Alcohol: when a player verbalizes that they will play the next hand using the minimum bet. It indicates to the other players that the player is struggling with hands or running out of chips.
All in Over the Top: Putting all your chips in right after your opponent has bet in a heads up situation.
AMC: “All my chips.” A way of stating within the game that you want to bet all your chips.
Ammunition/Ammo: a slang term for your chips in a poker game. When you need more “ammo” you need more chips.
Angle: a term that describes an underhanded way of attempting to win at poker. It is a calculated way of playing the game whether online or in the casino. Some people consider having an angle a form of cheating. Technically an angle isn’t cheating but many professionals consider it an unethical move.
Ante: this is the minimum bet that players automatically make at the beginning of every hand. The amount is decided in advance.
Artist: term for a poker cheat who affects the cards and the dealing in some way as to give an unfair advantage to a particular player.
Assigned Bettor: The first person to bet at the beginning of a hand or round of poker.
