Online poker has become so popular over the past decade that different groups have tried to break various records regarding the largest online poker tournaments. One of those groups, known as Pokerstars, is trying to break their own record, which was set in the month of July in 2009. Their latest tournament, and attempt at breaking their own record, will be played on Sunday December 27. The tournament in July included 65,000 entrants and is listed as the world’s largest in the Guinness Book of World Records. The tournament on Sunday will be held at 2:45 pm EST.

The prize pool is $300,000 guaranteed money and the buy in costs only $1. Many experts in the poker industry feel that Pokerstars will utterly obliterate their own record because of varying factors. Those factors include the incredibly low buy in, the large guaranteed money pool, and the fact that the tournament is taking place during the holidays, when people could use a couple of thousand dollars to help pay their bills.

The tournament is still a couple of days away yet there are already over 49,700 people registered for the tournament. If the tournament does not end up with more than 300,000 people in it then the first place winner will receive $50,000, the second place winner will receive $30,000, and the third place winner will receive $20,000. Also, the top 30,000 spots will pay out some form of winnings. Some of the satellites for this tournament are only charging $0.10 to buy into the tournament. This is a risk to take since you could potentially win $50,000.
