The Poker Hall of Fame, an invisible entity, inducted its Hall of Fame class for 2009 not too long ago. The Hall of Fame is not a physical entity, in that it is not located in a building like the Pro Football Hall of Fame or the National Baseball Hall of Fame, but is an entity that recognizes some of the best poker players in the world for their playing talents and the legacy they left on the world of poker. One of the newest members of the Poker Hall of Fame is Mike Sexton.

The Rio hosted the event, which featured opening words by Doyle Brunson and Jeffrey Pollock and roasting from Jack Binion, Tom McEvoy, and TJ Cloutier. Sexton was honored by a speech given by his brother Tom prior to him getting up and speaking some words on his own. Sexton graduated from college with a degree in gymnastics, served in the United States Armed Forces as a paratrooper, and worked as a ballroom dance instructor all before hitting the poker scene.

Sexton was one of the first, if not the first, poker player to be sponsored by a major corporation. The first company to sponsor the poker player was La Mode, a golf company. Mike went on to thank a ton of people in his life and congratulate the other nominees for the Poker Hall of Fame, saying that all of them will be members of the hall before they know it because they all deserve it just as much as he does.
