National Poker Week, a new idea created by the Poker Players Alliance, will be announced in full detail coming up on Monday June 22, 2009 at the World Series of Poker. A press conference will be held at 11am Pacific Time for the announcment of National Poker Week. The people present at the press conference include Full Tilt poker pro Howard Lederer, Congresswoman Shelley Berkley (D-NV), former three-term Senator from New York and current PPA Chairman Alfonse D’Amato, and PPA Executive Director John Pappas.

National Poker Week has been created as a grassroads effort to effectively educate the lawmakers in Washington D.C. about the game of poker and how it needs to be protected. There will be quite a bit of media outlets from around the country on hand for this ground breaking press conference but it still hasn’t been announced whether or not the conference will be open to the general public for attendance.

The creation of National Poker Week is in retaliation to the seizure of over $30 million belonging to online poker payment processors by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. The seizure took place early in the month of June and has affected close to 24,000 poker players playing the game on the Internet. The majority of the players affected by the seizure are now gun shy when it comes to cashing in their winnings.

The press conference will be held in Pavilion 11 of the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, which is hosting the 2009 World Series of Poker. The tournament is being held just down the hall in the Amazon Room.
