The Poker Players Alliance has created a petition on their website where poker lovers and poker players alike can sign the petition, which will be sent to President Obama, to legalize online poker. The petition begs for the legalization of online poker and states that online poker is not a crime.

The petition will ask President Obama to exempt the game of poker from the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and to regulate the game when people play it on the Internet. The website of the Poker Players Alliance reads:

“Join thousands of poker players across the country who are
raising their voices to keep the US’ most popular game legal. On July 22,
during National Poker Week, the Poker Players Alliance will present this
petition to the President, asking his support to exempt poker from the
Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), and for the legalization and regulation of online poker.

Your voice will be heard. Make it count.”

The three main items of the petition that the signers of the document want President Obama to put into action are:

  • Exempt poker from the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act
  • License and regulate internet poker in the US
  • Respect the rights of law-abiding Americans who love to play this great game of skill

Almost 80,000 people have signed the petition on the Poker Players Alliance website and there will be close to 100,000 signatures on the document before it is sent to the President of the United States on July 22, 2009. Make sure you are one of the signatures if you love the game of poker.
