Poker: for Fun and for Money
Poker is one of the most popular card games in not only the United States but also around the world today. It has grown from a game that was not well known in the 1960s to more than likely the most played card game in the 2000s. Poker is difficult to learn but it also isn’t a game that everyone can play and play well.
Some of the most talented poker players didn’t become the best in the game overnight. It took them years of practice and learning the nuances of the game before they became as successful as they are today.
Poker is played for two reasons these days; for fun or for money. When playing poker you don’t always have to bet big time money. Most people that play poker during parties or at their homes play for such things as Goldfish, potato chips, and pennies. This method makes the game a tiny bit more fun since a ton of money isn’t at stake, only some snacks and a handful of pennies.
The majority of people that play for the big bucks are involved in licensed poker tournaments that take place all over the country in casinos and other major venues. Atlantic City, New Jersey is home to some of the most popular casinos on the East Coast, which hold poker tournaments throughout the year.
The most widely known and popular poker tournaments in the world today is the World Series of Poker. This tournament draws players from all over the United States and the world that play for thousands of dollars. Some winners even come away with winnings that break the $1 million mark.
